Pure Syrah, powerful and vigorous.

 

The history of this Syrah goes back to the year 2000, with the first block, and continued with the second block in 2004, and again in 2005. Originally intended to contribute to our blend, we were immediately impressed by the silkiness of the grapes, their intense colour and their perfect ripeness. Over the years, the constant quality of the raw material and the results of the ageing process have made us understand that this wine should be a monovarietal wine, which it became in 2011.
The name comes from the vineyard at the heart of the production area, which is surrounded by a deep borro (ditch) dug by a small stream that appeared on ancient maps and has always been known as Borro delle Streghe (Witches’ Ditch).

  • Grape mix: 100% Syrah
  • Manual harvest: harvested in the first week of September
  • Ageing: 36 months in medium-sized oak casks and at least 6/8 months in bottles
  • Production: 2,000 bottles
  • Serving suggestions: uncork at least one hour before serving in large red wine glasses, at a temperature of 18 ºC.
    In this unfiltered wine, any sediment is synonymous with authenticity.    .

Our advice: this wine ages perfectly. We recommend Borro delle Streghe as an accompaniment to roast meat or a selection of mature cheeses.

Captivating vintage. The first part of the season was marked by an early budding that made us hold our breath. Fate decided that the flowering season and the phenolic phases that followed should continue without a hitch. The hot and dry summer gave us generous grapes.

Vigorous and powerful vintage. The winter was characterised by the right amount of rain, and was followed by several heat waves between May and August, which allowed the grapes to ripen at the right time. The result was berries rich in polyphenols and tannins, which guarantee great potential for long ageing.
